Altesse de Montagnieu

The finesse of Bugey

Varietals

100% Roussette

Tasting Note

Its pale gold highlights are the prelude to mineral and floral aromas. Young, its freshness offers a pure and harmonious mouth. After keeping a few years it reveals aromas of honey and bee wax.

Food and wine pairing

Aperitifs, foie gras, goat's cheese

Soils

On the prestigious steep slopes of Montagnieu, overlooking the river Rhone, I grow the native varietal, Roussette, traditionally called Altesse here. The plot, located at "En Chinvre", is an exceptional terroir composed of white clays strewn with superb ammonites, from which this grape draws its finesse and complexity.

Vinification

I pick the grapes at the end of the grapeharvest, when they are reddishbrown and close to sur-maturité (over-maturity). An “élevage sur lies” (ageing on lees) for several months rounds out the authentic character of the Altesse grape, to fully reflect its terroir.
